Abstract

The aim of this paper is to adopt the intentions behind writing ‘biographies’ of archaeological objects and to avoid the pitfalls associated with these ‘biographies’, i. e. an anthropomorphization of objects and their interpretation as provided with agency. To this end, I explicate the potential regarding an epistemology of objects of the methodology of objective hermeneutics on the one hand and of James Gibson’s theory of affordances on the other. Concluding, this approach is exemplified by a case study.
